Continual development
This is where you will never stop learning.
Whether you join us as Analyst or Associate, you can expect the very best training and development programs on the Street. But why stop after you initial formal entry training program? Across the Investment Bank and Asset Management, our senior leaders are committed to helping you continue your career-long learning.
We are dedicated to developing our employees at all levels by providing on-going learning opportunities. We offer a variety of training opportunities even after the formal entry program – from lunchtime sessions for product and market updates to our Investment Bank University programs which focus on core technical, client and management skills training.
A holistic approach
We are interested in helping you develop a broad skill base. Cross-asset and cross-product, our training will prepare you for the immediate and long-term demands of your career. You’ll become a specialist in your particular field, but we will also give you opportunities to broaden your skill set and knowledge base. Flexibility makes your career future-proof. And we are a true advocate of mobility within the firm.
So training’s never just about technical skills, essential though they are. We don’t employ our graduates to simply sit at their desks, examine figures and keep quiet. Ultimately, we’re a people business and our success depends upon a lot more than abstract figures on spreadsheets. You need to be able to present, to manage, to sell, to influence and to lead. Some organizations call these “soft” skills. We disagree. We regard them as business critical and this will be reflected in your training. We’ll expect you to have a strong personality already – we’ll help you to get the most out of it.
It’s our firmly held belief that the individual can only really prosper as part of the team. It’s a principle that informs our approach to training. The focus is on you as a person. You’ll already know different things from your colleagues but, likewise, they’ll know things you don’t. We weave group work into our training. Some of our best teachers are our peers.
Custom tailoring
We avoid going over old ground and teaching you about an area that is not relevant to your area. So, course material connects with what you’re doing in your day-to-day working life. Course offerings are a direct result of a needs assessment process. Feedback and input from senior leaders, Analysts, and Associates is taken into consideration in the design and development of this curriculum.
Investment Bank – IB University
The Investment Bank University curriculum offers a wide range of high impact courses in Corporate Finance, Markets and Risk. Specific courses can be selected from the available curriculum based on performance management discussions to enhance the skills required to be productive and successful on the job.
Our training team partners with leaders in the business, world-class instructors and regional training professionals to deliver best-in-class learning products and tools that will enhance individual skills and achieve J.P. Morgan’s business goals.
We realize that our employees are very busy people. So training needs to be flexible, up-to-date and interesting. We focus on creating training programs which are innovative and interactive and simulate what you actually do on the desk and in client meetings. Our training emphasizes the importance of teamwork which is crucial in today’s business environment.
Training draws on actual deal-based case studies, hands-on modeling and trading simulations. It will assist you in becoming fluent in such areas as accounting, economics, valuation analytics and the capital markets. Don’t worry if your degree isn’t in economics, business or finance; our training is designed to provide you with the background and knowledge you need to work in the Investment Bank.
Asset Management – Training for select Associates
We also offer training programs in Asset Management, such as the Investment Management Training Program for top Associates, to help them build upon the solid foundations of Investment Management products and processes. The four-week program (2 weeks in London and 2 weeks in New York) offers access to a global network of peers and a chance to network with senior management, as well as in-class training, case studies, and key strategic business initiatives.
Training for both the Private Bank and Investment Management utilizes role playing, in-class training, key strategic initiatives, and case studies to provide a memorable learning experience and the skills necessary for the next stage in your career.
To recap: Analyst or Managing Director, you can’t afford to stop learning new things. And we can’t afford to not have the best people working with us. So look forward to continual training that’s the envy of our competitors.
