Mobility

Our global leadership. Your global opportunities. You can set your own agenda. And, still stay at J.P. Morgan.

At J.P. Morgan, career mobility is something we take very seriously. The fact of the matter is that, thanks to our global footprint and business platform, you could be working almost anywhere. Offices around the world mean opportunities around the world; and a business that’s constantly evolving requires its people to do likewise. So where it makes sense, if you decide you would like a change from what you’re doing or where you are, you can transfer to an area more conducive to your skills. Many people move to experience the wider workings of the firm or to change direction.

This doesn’t always mean being promoted upwards. And, that’s ok. Lateral moves give broader exposure to more areas of the business which, in turn, will lead to the big vertical moves. It’s good to specialize. But focusing on one narrow subject to the exclusion of all others is not always the best approach. You need strong foundations if you want to step up a level. Moving into new groups and roles gives you an opportunity to expand your network of friends and colleagues.

Check out this video and hear what some of our top people have to say about their moves within J.P. Morgan.

We tell our Analysts and Associates that you should not feel tentative about approaching your manager. No doubt they’ll be sad to see you move. But if you are set on moving, your manager will work with you to explore options – after all – we want to make sure we keep our top talent within our organization. We have also named “Mobility Champions” in each of our business groups. Mobility Champions are line managers who are charged with providing information, perspective and guidance to interested Analysts and Associates.

So what happens if you don’t want to move? What if you love your work, you’re amazing at your job and you’re quite happy where you are? You’re going to be treated differently as if you’re not ambitious, right? Not at all. We’ll still recognize and reward you for your achievements. Fluidity and mobility are important to our business. But so are stability and strength. J.P. Morgan careers are about choice, and you can also choose not to move.

Mobility Night

J.P. Morgan hosts “Mobility Night” events to give Analysts and Associates the opportunity to hear from senior managers about their career moves and then network with other colleagues in an internal, informational career fair. At last year’s event, Rob Sivitilli, a Managing Director in the Investment Bank and senior Mobility Champion, described a culture that supports mobility for Analysts and Associates: “We want these new professionals to know that J.P. Morgan is a great place to grow and develop your career. We want to have a culture in which individuals are encouraged to explore new opportunities, whether across lines of businesses or across the globe.”
