The magnitude of a Summer Associate's job

Expect significant responsibility from day one. Private Bank Summer Associates work as integral members on integrated and investment solutions business teams, working directly with bankers, global investment specialists, and advisors to develop comprehensive solutions and personalized service for clients. You will become an expert in using our proprietary asset allocation, wealth projection, trust and stock option models, and you will interact with clients on a range of investment management and brokerage products.

Responsibility from the start

As a Private Bank Summer Associate, your responsibilities will be instrumental in supporting your team and meeting clients’ needs. Depending on your position, you will have responsibilities similar to a full-time Associate.

  • An Associate Banker partners with a Senior Banker on new business acquisition and on managing an existing client’s overall relationship, as well as ensuring that each client’s needs are met across many spectrums such as investments, lending, banking, trust, and estate planning.
  • An Associate Investor leads the investment dialogue with clients and makes sure that the proper investment plan is created and executed, as well as executing trades across all major asset classes.
  • A Product Associate creates innovative and cutting-edge investment solutions in line with the overall Private Bank investment strategy. They also provide seamless execution for all investment offerings and develop expertise in specific areas such as investment strategy, equity, foreign exchange, fixed income, and alternative investments.

Training and development

With world-class, hands-on training – both during orientation and throughout your internship at the Private Bank - you will receive the training and tools you need to succeed. You will attend a five-day orientation program that will provide an in-depth look of strategy, products and business groups. Throughout the summer, you will participate in training classes, attend speaker discussions, conduct role plays, complete case studies, engage in markets discussions, and enjoy social events. A dedicated program manager will guide you and provide invaluable feedback all summer long. Once the internship is over, you’ll become a primary candidate for our full-time program.

Rotational program

The ten-week program runs from early June to mid-August and consists of three rotational assignments, each lasting three weeks. You will have the opportunity to spend a portion of your summer in one of the regional offices, including New York, but we also offer opportunities in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Palm Beach, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. You can also choose to do an internship in Asia, spending 1-3 weeks in New York and the remainder of the summer in Hong Kong or Singapore. Wherever you are located, you will work and socialize with J.P. Morgan colleagues, creating your own professional network and opportunities to learn and develop in your role.

What we look for

Successful Summer Associates are highly motivated, results-driven and creative with the ability to generate ideas and execute them. The work is intellectually stimulating, fast-paced, demanding, and client-oriented, requiring the ability to work well under pressure and communicate effectively.

We recruit MBAs from many backgrounds - but having strong analytical skills is a must.
We also look for qualitative and quantitative skills, exceptional academic strength, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well on a team.

If you don't have a strong financial or business background, be sure you can tell your story; be able to demonstrate your quantitative aptitude both scholastically and practically (former jobs, for example) and be ready to articulate how your background will enhance your career at J.P. Morgan.
