Not a business major?

We hire from all majors. Seriously.

You don't have to be a business major to do well here; some of our most senior professionals were not finance majors, and many of them came for our world-class training, which features special "boot camp" sessions for liberal arts majors.

We've found that an aptitude for numbers and a talent for the analytical, while absolutely essential in any position in finance, are just the beginning of the equation. Numbers reveal a story, and a good banker must understand what the story means.

The people who succeed at J.P. Morgan have an interest in financial markets and how business and the economy work, and use their knowledge to find ways to make it work better. Just as important, they can synthesize and articulate their ideas clearly to clients and colleagues, and work with a team to turn an idea into reality.

Whether or not you're a business major, if you're interested in building a career in finance, here are some ways to prepare:

  • Know your story. Be ready to tell us why you want to be in Investment Banking, Sales & Trading, Research, or one of our programs in Asset Management, why you want to join J.P. Morgan, and why you're a good candidate
  • Be ready to support your quantitative aptitude. It could be your math SAT score, coursework or a job you held
  • Read the financial press and our Latest News, and pay close attention to the industries that interest you. Be familiar with investment products, concepts and terminology. For help, use our Jargon Buster
  • Study our website. Learn how we're organized and the specifics of what we do

We offer many opportunities for students to show their skills or learn more about our business: check out our Good Venture initiatives, including a socially responsible case competition and Give-It-Away; join the J.P. Morgan Community on Facebook; attend a Winning Women event in our offices; or become a Launching Leaders participant.
