Private Bank

Discover a great wealth of opportunity.

In the Private Bank Associate program, you work with top professionals on a team to protect, manage and grow the wealth of ultra-high net worth clients, while learning from the best in the business. Our private banking specialists are not based on commission; instead they are expected to collaborate with other talented colleagues to deliver top-notch solutions for their clients.

About the Private Bank

With over 160 years of experience, the J.P. Morgan Private Bank is a global wealth management leader that delivers the highest quality advice, service, capabilities, and products to ultra-high net worth individuals and their families, in 38 locations around the world. We deliver highly customized and tailored solutions to help clients with the many complexities they face by leveraging the entire commercial and investment banking capabilities of the firm. The Private Bank addresses every facet of wealth management from investment management and brokerage to tax and estate planning, credit, capital raising, and specialty wealth advisory services. With a focus on personalized client relationships, platform depth and breadth, and an integrated team structure, our unique business model enables us to deliver the best possible solutions to our clients though a wide range of capabilities while offering our employees an unmatched opportunity for exposure and growth.

The magnitude of an Associate's job

Expect significant responsibility from day one. Private Bank Associates work as integral members on an integrated or investment solutions business team, working directly with bankers, global investment specialists, and advisors to develop comprehensive solutions and personalized service for clients. On any given day, you may be involved in the following types of activities: executing a complex derivatives hedge, cross-selling our firm's venture capital and investment banking capabilities, and recommending the optimal strategy a client should use to exercise executive stock options.

You will become an expert at using our proprietary asset allocation, wealth projection, trust and stock option models, and interact with clients on a range of investment management and brokerage products. You will also work closely and socialize with outstanding colleagues, creating your own professional network and opportunities to learn and develop in your role. The Associate role typically spans three years, after which time, many Associates will be promoted to Vice President.

Responsibility from the start

As a Private Bank Associate, your responsibilities will be instrumental in supporting your team and meeting clients' needs.

  • An Associate Banker partners with a Senior Banker on new business acquisition and on managing an existing client's overall relationship, as well as ensuring that each client's needs are met across many spectrums such as investments, lending, banking, trust, and estate planning.
  • An Associate Investor leads the investment dialogue with clients and makes sure that the proper investment plan is created and executed, as well as executing trades across all major asset classes.
  • A Product Associate creates innovative and cutting-edge investment solutions in line with the overall Private Bank investment strategy. They also provide seamless execution for all investment offerings, and develop expertise in specific areas such as investment strategy, equity, foreign exchange, fixed income, and alternative investments.

Training and development

Our full-time training program is one of the best in the business, and one of the reasons top candidates join our firm. As a full-time Associate, an intensive ten-week orientation program will introduce you to J.P. Morgan's products and services, clients, and business practices. With classroom instruction, real client case studies, interactive computer simulations, and individualized coaching, you will be well equipped to take the first steps in a successful career. The world-class, hands-on training will continue throughout your career at the Private Bank.

As you progress in your career, you will assume significant responsibility by working directly with clients while interacting frequently with senior management.

Locations

Associates support teams in various locations throughout the US, including New York, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Palm Beach, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. Opportunities are also available within our Latin American team based in New York, and our Asia team in Hong Kong or Singapore.

What we look for

Successful Associates are highly motivated, results-driven, assertive, and skilled communicators, with the ability to develop and manage client relationships. We also look for candidates with advanced quantitative and analytical skills who have an extensive knowledge of and passion for financial markets. For placement on a US-based international team, relevant language skills and cultural knowledge are essential.

If you don't have a strong financial or business background, be sure you can tell your story; be able to demonstrate your quantitative aptitude both scholastically and practically (former jobs, for example) and be ready to articulate how your background will enhance your career at J.P. Morgan (you'll find out more tips in our Advice Center including advice for career changers).
