Transportation to and from the city
New York has two major train terminals, three airports and one big bus station. It's important to keep them straight.
- JFK Airport is in Queens, and is the farthest away from Manhattan. Most international flights go through JFK
- LaGuardia Airport is also in Queens and mainly handles domestic flights
- Newark Liberty Airport, in New Jersey, handles both domestic and international flights

Taxis may be the most convenient way to get to and from the airports, but are certainly not the cheapest; depending on the airport and traffic, fares can easily surpass $50 with tolls and tip. For about $12, you can catch one of the shuttle services that operate to and from Port Authority and Grand Central. For more information click here.
Grand Central Terminal is on the east side of town, between 42nd and 44th Streets on Park Avenue, very close to J.P. Morgan's headquarters. It's the hub for commuter trains from Connecticut and Westchester. Penn Station is on the west side of town, between 7th and 8th Avenues and 31st and 33rd Streets. Amtrak uses Penn Station, as do commuter trains from Long Island and New Jersey. Port Authority Bus Station is also on the west side, at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue. Virtually all commuter and long-haul buses come into Port Authority.
