J.P. Morgan announces Finalists for Good Venture Undergraduate Competition
Nine teams Invited to New York for Final Round of Undergraduate Competition
J.P. Morgan announced today the nine undergraduate finalist teams for the Good Venture Competition, which will take place at J.P. Morgan’s New York headquarters on January 17 and 18, 2008. Good Venture is a socially responsible competition for graduate and undergraduate students that launched in the U.S. in Fall 2006, and is now an international competition for socially responsible students around the world.
Finalist teams will present their case to a panel of senior J.P. Morgan's Investment Banking executives for why the philanthropic non-profit organization they’re representing should receive the grand prize - a $25,000 donation from J.P. Morgan. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony following the competition on January 18.
An unprecedented 101 teams from 76 schools around the world entered the undergraduate competition this year. Students championed programs that included a grassroots effort to provide electricity to remote villages in India, a nutrition-focused organization working to decrease the level of malnourishment in targeted Latin American communities, and a capital-contributing microfinance intermediary for micro-entrepreneurs in China.
Prior to being selected, each competing team, of up to four members, chose an existing organization to represent. Teams then submitted proposals to compete on behalf of their organizations.
J.P. Morgan will select a winner based on which team most aptly demonstrates a scenario in which the financial investment will yield discernible social returns. The graduate portion of the 2007 competition concluded on December 7, with a $25,000 check awarded to Supporting Kids in Peru (SKIP), a non-profit organization presented by an international team from Italy, Spain and the U.S. Visit jpmorgan.com/goodventure to view photos of past competitions and for more information.
