In its coverage for the Best Global Emerging Markets Investment Bank award category, the financial markets magazine noted that J.P. Morgan's "consistency and ability to execute landmark transactions" makes the firm "a clear winner in emerging markets." While Euromoney also noted that "the bank's roster of transactions over the past year has left its rivals trailing in its wake, many of its key deals were accomplished at times when competitors preferred to stay on the sidelines."
In naming J.P. Morgan the Best Global Debt House for 2008, Euromoney lauded J.P. Morgan for being "one of the few underwriters still able to provide access to the U.S. bond market when the financial crisis hit," and drew attention to the fact that the firm "grew market share during the crunch and played a key role in underwriting cross-border flows."
In its coverage for the Best Bank in North America category, Euromoney commented: "It will come as no surprise that J.P. Morgan wins this year's award for best bank in North America. ... As other U.S. banking franchises' balance sheets have taken a beating over the past 12 months, J.P. Morgan has maintained a steady tier 1 capital ratio of around 8.5 %. If there is proof that universal banking is a successful model it is J.P. Morgan."
J.P. Morgan also won numerous regional equity awards: Best Equity House in Western Europe, the Best Equity House in Central Eastern Europe and the Best Equity House in Croatia, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Mexico and Columbia. In addition, it was named the Best Debt House in Kazakhstan. While this year the bank also picked up awards for the Best M&A House in Asia, where Euromoney noted: "J.P. Morgan deserves the award for its outperformance, the breadth of the platform it has developed across the region's key markets and its ability to get in on the biggest and most high profile deals," and the Best M&A House in India, Chile and Japan.
